6. TRANSLUNAR INJECTION

In Earth orbit, the astronauts and Mission Controllers check that the spacecraft is functioning properly. Then the third stage engine is re-ignited to gain the momentum needed to break free of Earth’s gravity and send it into an orbit that will intersect the Moon’s orbit as it swings by.
